The NHWDS consists of de-identified registration and survey data for health practitioners from the fourteen health professions regulated by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) under the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (NRAS). The Data Tool allows users to generate tables and graphs for individual health professions by demographic, geographic and employment characteristics. Users can also analyse data across all the professions according to areas of interest - such as characteristics of all registered practitioners working in mental health or aged care settings – and at various geographic levels including Primary Health Networks.
Workforce Surveys are provided by AHPRA on behalf of the Department to all health professionals as part of their yearly re-registration. Each survey is slightly different and is tailored to obtain data specific to that profession.
For your reference a copy of each survey is available via the Resources tab on the workforce Data website.
In addition to the User Guide, the Department will also provide further assistance to users of the Health Workforce data tool in the form of tailored metadata guides for accessing information specific to each profession in the near future.
