Fact Sheets

Individual Fact Sheets by profession and division are produced to accompany the Department of Health’s NHWDS data release. These Fact Sheets present information specific to each profession, such as information relating to principal area of practice, work setting and work sector.

Fact sheets will be updated on a yearly basis for all professions.

NHWDS - Nursing and Midwifery Fact Sheets

Note: ‘Registered and Employed’ practitioners

The summary data presented in the Nursing and Midwifery 2016 Fact Sheets includes a flow-diagram presenting counts of ‘General Registration’, which represents the population of Nurses and Midwives that were registered within the workforce survey reference period, and ‘Employed’, which includes professionals that recorded hours worked in the workforce survey reference period.

Employment count for All Nurses and Midwives is a total headcount, whereas the employed counts by profession (Nursing (Registered Nurse (RN), Enrolled Nurse (EN)) and Midwifery) are calculated based on working hours in each division and/or profession.

That is, if a person records hours in more than one profession (Nursing (RN/EN) and/or Midwifery), they will be counted as employed in each of those professions. For example, someone who reports hours worked as an RN and a Midwife will be reported in both employed counts.

For this reason the total employment count for All Nurses and Midwives will not match the sum of the employment count in each profession.

The Department of Health has made every effort to ensure that the Word versions of the Fact Sheets below meet accessibility requirements. If you are experiencing difficulty accessing the information contained within the Fact Sheets, please email healthworkforcedata@health.gov.au to arrange for an alternative format to be provided to you.
